Collections

The Library supports teaching, research and study, as well as patient care. It provides services to the staff and students of the Institute of Dentistry; also for other neighbouring institutes, such as Department of Forensic Medicine, Department of Public Health, Department of General Practice and Primary Health Care and furthermore for Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences and Helsinki City College of Social and Health Care.

The Library serves anyone who needs information in dentistry and in its disciplines: oralmaxillofacial surgery, dental infectious diseases, stomatognathic disorders and prosthodontics, pediatric & preventive dentistry, orthodontics, oral radiology, oral biology and periodontology, dental public health, oral pathology and oral medicine and also health care, optometry, radiography and radiometry.

The Library has over 20 000 books and it receives 250 current periodicals: the list of current periodicals.
The Library has also a collection of textbooks. Monographs in the open access section are arranged to the NLM Classification. In addition to the NLM Classification MeSH-terms are used to describe the library material. 
The catalogue information of books and journals is available on the Helka database, the union catalogue of the collections of all Helsinki University libraries.

The new books and issues of journals are on display in a special section. Journal titles are shelved alphabetically. The current year and two previous years can be found in journal cabinets with the most recent issue in front of the door. Those older than three years are located on shelves of the library.

The Library offers computer and network services for the customers; all the Electronic information resources of Terkko are available.
The Library staff gives guidance concerning the collections and using the equipments.

Loan service and interlibrary loans

The library collections and catalogues are available to anyone needing information. In order to borrow material from the library you must have a Helka card, which you get from our service desk. This card is valid in all the Helsinki University libraries. Periodicals are usually available in the library premises only.
At the lending office there is a self-service copier for customer use. Using University copy cards makes copying inexpensive. Copy cards may be purchased at the Students Affairs Office of the Institute.

Interlibrary loans

• The Library provides information material from its own collections to other libraries.
• Photocopies of articles are delivered to private persons, too.
• The web form is a convenient way of ordering material. Fill in the electronic request form, please, and send it via the Internet.
• The document delivery services are charged according to Terkko´s Service Fees.

How to find us

 The buildings of the Institute of Dentistry are located in Ruskeasuo, in the quarter between Mannerheimintie 172 and Kytösuontie 9 - 11 (in the map of Helsinki telephone catalogue see page 51, square 79/83).

• Parking area is by the Kytösuontien 9-11.
• Access by bus from the City Centre via Mannerheimintie. When coming from the city centre the bus stop is on Mannerheimintie before the bus reaches the Institute building. When coming from the North, the bus stop is just in front of the building. 
• Express buses as well as long-haul buses stop there too.
• The cross traffic bus stops are in the junction of Vihdintie and Hämeenlinnantie.
• The tram number 10:  The closest tram stop when coming from the City Centre is the second stop after the tram has turned from Mannerheimintie to Kytösuontie.
